Admission Process

We acknowledge that admission to a psychiatric clinic can be daunting, but with our friendly staff, we will help you feel at ease and make your stay a comfortable and pleasant one.  We welcome both medical aid and private patients.

What to bring to the clinic

  • Medical Aid card

  • ID document of both patient and medical aid main member

  • Medical aid authorization number (we can assist with the process obtaining this number)

  • Comfortable casual wear

  • Comfortable shoes

  • Decent sleepwear (you will be sharing a room) and night gown preferably

  • Toiletries

  • Medication you are currently using (preferably in the original packaging as received from the pharmacy)

  • Cell phone with enough airtime

  • Cell phone charger and two-point plug

  • Books for reading

  • Writing instruments

  • Cigarettes (if you are a smoker)

You wiLl receive:

  • Bath towel

  • Hand towel

  • Thick blanket for your bed

  • Cupboard key (If lost, you will need to pay a fee to have it replaced) *

*You are responsible to keep your valuables locked away.  Vredekloof Clinic, iKapa and its staff do not except any responsibility for damages or theft caused. 

Upon admission you will have to give the nurses all the medication you are currently taking.  They will store your medication safely and will see to it that you take it as prescribed.  All sharp objects (nail clippers, scissors etc.) will also need to be handed in.  One of the staff members will help you unpack your things and will take all these objects to be stored safely.  If you need to use it, it will be given to you and afterwards be taken in to be stowed away.
